Improving the Skills

Click on the link in the title to go through phase #2 of preparing for the intramural basketball tournament. Not only is stamina and fitness important, but we also need to remember which sport we're playing. Basketball is a game of coordination and strategy. My dad always says it's like ballet with a ball. It's all about timing and quick thinking. Work on some drills, and keep these tips in mind, they'll help!

Time to Get in Shape

With the tournament coming up, our teams cannot afford any loses, for if you lose, you're out!
What can one do to prevent a loss? Step one could be to increase your all around fitness level. Some tips from
fitness websites could help to achieve optimal stamina.
A little running

and biking

can help to increase your stamina, however it is imperative to stretch your muscles

before and after exercising to warm them up and prevent injuries in addition to increasing your flexibility.

Bring it Back

Don't let this distract you... Spring Break is over!
Instant scheduling is this Tuesday, March 21, from 10:30-2pm so swing by the intramural office to sign up your team for the tournament.

After Marquette's unfortunate first round loss in the NCAA the motivation to win should be higher than ever.

Do not try to call in to schedule your team for the tournament, it cannot be done that way. A representative from the team must come in during instant scheduling to sign up for a time. The schedule should then be posted the next day.

Put on Your Game Face

With the last intramural games being played tonight, us basketball fanatics are going to have to turn our faces to the Big East tournament coming up this weekend.
With Marquette placing 4th and getting a bye for the first round, I have a great feeling about this year's team.

Novak and James, it's a new tag team like we've been feening to see since we made the Final Four back in 2003.
Support Marquette basketball and
watch our team play in the Big East tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York, March 8th through March 11th!
Download and fill out your own bracket!
Go Marquette!

Showing their Best

As the regular season comes to a close, teams are giving their best to get as many wins as possible.

With tournament sign up times giving priority to those teams with the most wins, the incentive to win is increased even further.

The team who wins the tournament in the end receives a "Intramural Champion" t-shirt, and the pride that goes along with being undefeated -- or close to it.

Teams that are undefeated in their league can appeal to be placed in the next higher league for the tournament, to increase competition.

The tournament will begin after Spring Break, and teams will play against each other until they lose. Each week there will be less and less games, as the final games for each league are played.

The game schedule will be posted at the Rec Center after Spring Break, so make sure to check for your team's time!
